This page is really important

Cus this is where you can blab for all you're worth about sc...complaints...memories...bitter rantings about lessons/tests/exams/homework...whatever...

P/S i welcome complaints and **constructive criticism** about the school, the people, whatever. And yes, my new policy requires you to leave your real name and class before your comments get posted. Don't try and use fake ones. Also be warned that any verbal abuse directed specifically at anyone as well as any obscenities will be cut out from your messages. So don't waste time complaining that so-and-so is physically unattractive if you've nothing better to say.

A word from the editor

After several sleepless nights and lengthy consultations with my website content committee (my my, don't i sound grand...well that was just b.s. :o), i have to point out that the password thingy poses several problems if it *is* implemented. First of all, as Tanny rightly pointed out, think of the inconvenience. How on *earth* am i supposed to let everyone know the password? And what happens to visitors who were SC girls in the last millenium (sorry, but let's not hide from the fact that we're growing old...even me) who don't have the password? Why exclude them? Sure if they really wanted to see this page, they could send email to me, but how many would bother to? They'd probably be pretty cheesed off at being excluded in the first place anyway.
Secondly, i'd again like to point out that *absolutely nobody* has been brave enough to leave names when they complain, so ehhh...i really don't see what the big fuss's about. In any case, should there be ANY complaints that are actually posted, it must mean it's a pretty serious thing that needs to be looked into. Every school's got its own problems, and SC's not claiming to be the perfect school after all. If such a thing does happen, it can probably take pride in the fact that it's got girls who are articulate and courageous enough to come forth with their complaints. If you ask me, that's really admirable.
Okay, okay...maybe i'm just trying to avoid extra work. If you really do want it, vote for it. You can vote as many millions of times until i feel like taking it down. Oh, BTW, as they say during every G.E. -- YOUR VOTE IS SECRET. i won't know if you vote 'yes', so i won't be able to send my gang to wallop you. And i promise not to fix the votes :o)
Actually, i think maybe i should just press my delete key and zap this page into outer space. It's starting to seem like i'm being KPO and meddling in the affairs of the school, which i really don't want to do. So what do you think? Tell me if you want me to get rid of this page, and i will. Meanwhile, till i actually make a decision, it would be fun to read your reactions to "tok about links" by Jocelyn Chng. Keep writing. Add some spark into my mundane life. If there are any teachers reading this, it'd be lotsa fun to read you reactions too. So write. Write. Write. I'm in the mood to argue for once ;o)

Jocelyn Chng's Blabber -- Talk About Links

I think u should really simply ignore her letter because u have our FULL support 100%
I think that this site has every right to be linked to the official SCGS homepage. Even Ms Heng (not to mention the other teachers) gave it a go-ahead, so why should there be any doubts? Surely u should trust their judgement.
Firstly, it is obvious that the editor had spent countless hours to build & maintain this page & expanding so much so that it is just as grand as the official SCGS homepage (which is put up & maintained by a whole bunch of people).
Instead of being discouraging & disrespectful (like some people are) we should be proud that there is actually someone around who VERY loyal to SCGS, dedicating much of her time & effort in trying to bring together the SCGS girls, ex & present. Our dear editor is doing it out of loyalty & love for the school, claiming practically NO credit, no ECA points & nothing. When everyone who has the ability is creating a homepage for their class or for themselves, she is devoting her time into this unofficial homepage & with skills that she possess, she could have easily made herself a terrific homepage, but she didn't. She put the school before herself.
What attracts people to homepages is not only the information provided. Yes, we have an official SCGS homepage. But this is something totally different. The link from the official page to this page makes the SCGS homepage seem more alive & 'human'. How many people enjoy going to homepages that are although full of information but yet seem cold & distant? Ask yourself if u would enjoy it (if u would, u r either inhuman & weird, or merely just inhuman).
& If u think that passwords would help, u r awfully WRONG. Take Schools Online (the Internet service provider for school students) for example. Yes, each student has his or her own account with a password. Still there are problems like the leakage of passwords. What makes u think that the password would not leak out? Yes, we should trust the SCGS girls to not reveal things that they should not reveal. But in actual fact, it will happen be it purposely or accidentally. PLUS, just imagine visiting a site which has a link which is password protected & u happen to not have the password. Wouldn't u be turned off & never ever visit that site again?
Think of the trouble our dear editor has to go through, & think of what an inconvenience it is for SCGS girls. Every year we would have to keep telling them what the password is (guaranteed that they would remember the password?). And ...why bother to set up a web page in the first place when u want to have it 'locked up' & away from the eyes of the public? THINK about THAT!
In conclusion, I would like to point out a couple of things: -
1) Start appreciating the efforts of the editor.
2) Stop giving worthless advice to the editor. She is a sensible JC2 student & she has brains good enough to tell right from wrong. If you are from the team that manages the OFFICIAL homepage, DO discuss the matters you would like to bring up with the teachers in charge (especially if it is important stuff like whether to link or not to link this page up). Although u may be the leader in the team, REMEMBER that however high your position might seem, there are still others above u. for any matters u bring up, do have sufficient reasonings, examples & evidence to support your statement (especially if u decide to state that u are a representative of clubs ie. the multimedia club. For u certainly do not want to bring shame & disgrace to your club do u?!?)
3) Until you are capable in single-handedly creating something as good or better than this, you should HUMBLY suggest & not comment. (But I do think that the same should be done even if u r more capable that our dear editor!) It is something called RESPECT.
Thanks for reading this & sorry if i have accidentally insulted or offended anyone .

[ed. note: Yikes! That was INTENSE! *grinz*]
Tok about links...

I really don't think this portion should be linked to the official site. May mislead our visitors. [ed. note: "mislead"? But you're not exactly claiming to be the "perfect" school...] Maybe you could add a password security for SC students..... ! And, just to let you knoe, I'm the person doing the current official pages ! Thanx a lot. If you need info, could tell me !

No let's not make things difficult for poor ole' vic...

[ed. note: ehhh...actually, like to draw your attention to the fact that NOBODY is brave enough to complain here anyway, ever since i started demanding full names...so...heh...]
School Ties

interesting page... by a grp of you, no doubt. [ed. note: actually, it's one person, lots of encouragement from many and too much free time to spare] I'm like pretty much way gone from sch now, but I think some things never change, like when I went back to sch abt 2 weeks ago, the ppl change, but the values don't, and the mee pok uncle is still there! Wow.... so you kids who are fresh out of sch, or are still in there, it is quite an experience, for no matter how much there was to dislike there, the spirit still stays...... and the valiant attempt of the teachers to rear kimgeks out of us monekys..... JC is not quite the same, so treasure your time there, I know I did. :) Good luck

You can clutch the past so tightly to your chest that it leaves your arms too full to embrace the present.

[No Title]

I wasn't a staunch lover of SCGS -- I didn't hate it, but I was hardly fond of it. I have good memories, and not so nice ones too... but why harp on the not-so-nice parts... why complain in a malicious way and then not be straight enough to put your real name and e-mail address so you can be rightfully praised or slammed. And believe me... many of you who have put such "frank" comments should be. I'm not saying you shouldn't be putting what you really think up, but need you be outright whiney and critical? I think this blabber page should only be up if you would dare to say what you have to say to the face of the teacher or in front of the whole school. The net should not be allowed to protect your identity if the school's identity is not being protected either. The net should not be a place where you can make hurtful and unconstructive statements directed at people -- because you know of no other way to do it. It's cowardly. And not to mention dumb. Sure you have complaints about the teachers... the food... the school... but how about you? Have you looked at yourself and seen how "wonderful" you really are... are you of any asset to the school yourself? You don't have to be in the school -- you choose to be... Could you be a better teacher... could you run a better school? Looking at your comments and what it says of your intellect and maturity (or lack thereof) I truly doubt it. I mean sure, by all means complain, but don't do it with the intentions of hurting someone...
I'm not saying you should say only nice things about SCGS on the blabber page which is your area of expression as intended by the editor. But I'm asking you to think carefully about what you write. And to take full responsiblity for writing it. If there's something to be said... it should be objective and constructive... not hurtful and malicious... there's no place for that anywhere... not in the world, not on the net. And certainly not with the name of SCGS tagged to it.
Just my 2 cents.
